For your own safety, we recommend you to familiarize yourself with emergency exits and fire extinguishing equipment in your apartment.

Escape plan
An escape plan with fire safety instructions is posted in the entrance area of your apartment. In case an evacuation becomes necessary, it is important that you and the other inhabitants of your apartment know where the emergency exits are, and we recommend that you familiarize yourself with these. Emergency exits must not be obstructed by personal belongings to enable a quick escape and easy access to the fire brigade.

Smoke detectors / home fire hose
There is a least one smoke detector in your apartment, in addition to a home fire hose. You are responsible for ensuring that the smoke detector is functional at any time. We distribute new batteries in November/ December each year. We ask you to replace the battery in the smoke detector at that time, and to check that it works once you have done so.

Stove guard
In most of the apartments a stove guard has been installed. If there is no stove guard in your apartment, you can request one. To ensure that the stove guard has been installed correctly, we can assist you with connecting the stove when you move in or whenever necessary.

Electrical appliances
One of the most frequent causes for fires in Norway is incorrect use of electrical appliances. Below, you will find a list with tips and advice for the use of such appliances, published by the Norwegian Directorate for Civil Protection (DSB).

  • The products that are used must be in good technical condition.(CE-marked)
  • Always follow the user instructions for each technical appliance, and do not use the appliances for anything than their intended purpose.
  • Ensure that chargers and transformers do not overheat.
  • Washing machines, tumble dryers and dishwashers should only be used while you are at home, and not while you are asleep.
  • Clean the lint filter in the tumble dryer after each use.
  • Switch off all electrical appliances completely when they are not in use.
  • Do not plug to many electrical appliances into the same outlet.
  • Ensure that electrical appliances are in proper condition. Get rid of old equipment and worn-out cables
